Overview

The William Zimmer Prize in Art Criticism is being offered to students of Art History and Theory in conjunction with the United States tour of the Recent Works exhibition of the acclaimed Irish artist John Kingerlee. Scheduled venues for the exhibition to date are as follows:

The winning essay from each venue will be selected by the noted critics Richard Vine, Dominique Nahas and Larry Powell of Larry Powell Management. The winner will be awarded a prize of $1,000, and will be shortlisted for a Grand Prize award of $3,000 at the conclusion of the US tour. The Grand Prize winning essay will be published in a respected art journal either in the US or Europe.

The exhibition will include 60 to 100 works (depending on venue), a one-hour documentary film and reference copies of John Benington’s full-length monograph on the artist. The critic Dominique Nahas (Art in America, ARTnews, Art Asia Pacific) who has spent time with the artist at his studio in West Cork, Ireland, is scheduled to give a talk on Kingerlee at each exhibiting venue.
